Can I get extra help with the teacher outside of class time?
Yes! Make sure you come talk to me about a time, but normally after school (2:45) work fine for me. BEFORE YOU COME, you need to know WHAT you need help with, and what I can do to help you with it. Otherwise, we will spend the whole time figuring out what you need help with and not actually getting help with it.
How am I graded?
Look at your syllabus. You'll be graded by each mode of communication: reading, listening, presentational (speaking or writing), interpersonal (speaking or writing). See Below for question about what those are if you're curious.
Can I get extra credit?
There will very rarely be opportunities to receive extra credit in this course. However, you will have the option to make up or re-do assessments if needed and willing to do the extra work.
Do you round grades up?
No. I enter scores in to power school. I don't round up or down; I simply put them in as they are.

What are the classroom procedures and expectations?
- notebook for ISN. PREFERRED: notebook large enough to fit an entire sheet of paper in without folding, but it's up to you. Binders aren't a preferred method because of the way we do our reflection. Questions about ISN? See below.
- Colored pencils/markers: color in our ISN is a requirement, so it's a good idea to have some with you if/when my supply runs out.
- glue stick: we use a lot of glue sticks by gluing stuff in our ISN, so you'll need to have some on hand seeing as I don't have a good amount in my classroom due to budget cuts :(
- writing utensils: pencil, pen...you choose.
- folder: sometimes you'll be receiving something that doesn't need to be in your ISN. This is where it should go!
- headphones/earbuds: We will be doing listening activities in class, and it's necessary to have your own pair for when we do individual listening activities. This way, you can listen as many times as you need to in order to understand!
- device: since we're a BYOD school, it's important to bring one if you have one! This way, we can have more fun by using apps and other resources to make Spanish even more exciting.
- charger: if you bring your device, you'll probably need to charge it.
- notebook paper: sometimes we'll do activities that aren't going in the ISN.
Why don't we have a text book?
Several Reasons:
- outdated: technology unit contains the words floppy disk, CD-ROM, etc. other slang words are so old that only grandparents will understand you!
- textbooks are old, used, and beat-up: there is writing, pictures we can't erase, and ripped out pages in all of them.
- no choice for students: I want the students to learn about things that interest them and that they will be able to use. If I am stuck in the textbook, I can't do fun units on things that the students love. I, of course, am following the county curriculum, but I can have students help me along with what they would like to learn.
- grammar-driven: when I was in school, we sat there talking about verbs and drawing charts. All we did was talk about grammar...but when it came to having a real conversation it was HARD! So, we will be working primarily on communicating in Spanish, not whether or not you know every random stem-changing verb.
- THEY ARE BORING
- doesn't allow for individualization/differentiation
